Conceptualizing our new home was never difficult. Our efforts spun out of the need for more bedrooms, desire for a separate play space for the boys that didn't leave toys overtaking the main living space, and the need for a better kitchen layout to accommodate dietary needs. As we mapped out our wish list it seemed as though we were being practical in our approach, starting with a basic design that allowed for simpler construction and hopefully a faster build. Yet, as we began to translate our ideas into an actual plan we quickly realized how our design vision cramped our practical needs and vice versa.
If I look back on life five or ten years ago I could never have imagined where I am today. It is hard to believe how much life can change in a relative short (less than a decade) amount of time. About four years ago I started STRONGTOTS as a means to foster a conversation with parents about toddlerhood and the early years of parenting after hearing from many families in my practice that they wished to continue learning beyond the scope of our work together with one or more of their children. At the same time I had two young boys of my own and was in the throws of navigating many of the same adventures I focused on in practice right in my very own home.
